Tonight I saw the shadow of a train as it passed by. I wondered where it might be going.
Ever since I was a little girl I have had a fascination with trains. My grandfather worked for the Great Northern Railroad. Every time we would see a train I would look for the distinctive blue cars with the mountain sheep. That was back in the time when there were people in the caboose and they would wave when you waved at them. My great grandmother lived near Glacier National Park and there was a train that passed through the edge of the property. I loved to hear the sound of the wheels on the track and the whistle blow. I continue to find the far off whistle and the clicking of the wheels soothing as they sweep me into memories of long ago.
The first train trip I remember going on was when we lived in Alaska. We road the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage for a family vacation. I don't remember much more than that as I was very young. I have been a few times since. Once I went with my son from California to Omaha to visit my mom the Thanksgiving after my father passed and again a few years ago when I went to visit my grandsons traveling from Jacksonville to Raleigh. That last trip included a sleeper, which was very nice.
It has been a dream of mine to travel the United States by train. I would have a nice sleeper car and just go from place to place seeing parts of the country that cannot be seen from the roadways. I would visit friends and relatives, then get back on the train and be off on the next adventure. I hear the trip up the West Coast is beautiful. Visiting my family in Montana would definitely be on the route along with many of the National Parks. It would be great to take the train on the East Coast from the furthest north to the furthest south. I can almost feel that gentle sway of the cars as it travels down the track, lulling you into a relaxation like no other. I wonder how long it will take to make some of these trips as travel by train is sometimes much longer than other means of travel. Perhaps it is time to start planning that dream so I will be ready when the time is here.
Where would you go?

A Bit About Me
My passion is to help people rediscover themselves and the path to a more fulfilling life. My experiences of growing up in the military, working as a professional in a male dominated industry and years of taking care of others, have provided me with first hand knowledge of the importance of taking control and living the life of your dreams. Enjoying the journey on the way to my dreams!
